Level Cap / Expansions?
I bet this is going to turn out like EQ where you have to buy expansions to raise the level 20 cap and other features what do you think?

It will have expansions though to progress the story line and maybe open more PvP areas.
Not sure but the latter part but this game HAS to have some kind of expansion, it relies on them for income.
That's the whole thing with having no monthly fee.

THere will likely NEVER be a change in Level cap.. Their projected model is that the expansions are for ascended lvl 20 characters only and that they won't raise the cap only come up with new and more creative/difficult content aimed exclusively at lvl 20.

It would be useless to raise the lvl cap because you gain exp right now anyways so even if they did raise the cap I would all ready be past the new cap.

Of course there will be expansions, and I think most of us say "bring em on." This game is extremely cheap entertainment, and Ill gladly shell out another fifty bucks here and there for more of it.
I have never seen any game where you HAD to buy an expansion to meet a new level cap. Of course that is a non-issue with this game, as there wont be any type of cap increases.

Aaaagh is right, there isn't going to be any type of cap increase.
They have said repeatedly that they will release expansions, but the level cap will not raise so you don't have to keep grinding your way up.

There will probably be an increase in skill point cap for ascended characters as one of the features of the expansion packs is new skills to find, possibly new class's.
Therefore it would make sence that they increase the skill point cap if they are going to add new skills for existing ascended classes, this wont actually effect the balance, but will probably start the "got to have all the runes/skills" players moaning again.
So level beyond 20 no, but if you look at leveling as gaining skill points, there is currently 200 levels and that will increase.

A direct quote from GW:
Currently the level cap is set to a maximum of 20. Once you reach Level 20, you will continue to acquire skill points and refund points, but your health and mana points will be capped. At this time, there are no plans to raise the level cap. If we do make a change, or if we have a higher level cap in future chapters of Guild Wars, we will be sure to share the news in an interview, on our various fansite forums, or we will make a post about it on our official site, www.guildwars.com. Please keep an eye on the site for future updates.
Every says there will not be a level cap raise. I've even posted my thoughts and had immature flamers try to correct me and not even here me out. Thing is they left the level cap out in the open. I've yet to find anything that says will NEVER EVER raise level cap. If you read quote above they say they have no intention of raising it now, but look out for future updates. So I wouldn't say that they will never raise it. I have a feeling it will go up eventually. Maybe not after the first exp. pack but I think you'll find it will raise someday.
My opinion and experiences from online games things you tend to see in exp packs are new areas, new items, new quests, new monsters, sometimes new skills, sometimes new jobs, and sometimes level cap raises. Do I know for sure that GW will do this, hell no. But rest assured it is a fair asumption especially when it is left open ended not directly stated on website. Unless you have a specific quote from GW from an interview or website saying it will NEVER happen, I wouldn't be so sure.
*If you do happen to have a specific quote please post it or let me know the link you got from, I'd like to read up more about GW and it's future.

Perhaps, if the game draws out to 2 or 3 expansions they'll raise the level cap... might be interesting if they make a full map (the size of the current map) only out of the underworld, and then raise the cap at that point (30 or something)...
but as it is, I like the suggested idea that level 20 is the cap and from then on you have to learn strategy instead of relying on beef to get past more and more complicated missions and difficult enemies.

I'm pretty sure that if they ever raise the level cap, they will raise it for everybody, not just those who bought the new expansion pack. They *have* written that people who don't buy the expansion pack will remain competitive. The current UAS whiners will of course whine anyway.
There are no good game-play reason to raise the level cap, so I suspect they will do it when the game is near its natural end-of-life in order to squese a bit extra money from the last expansion.

I know from FFXI and AC2 when they do/did raise level caps it was usually 5 levels at max. I would tend to think if they do it, or when, it won't be a major raise. It will probably happen after an expansion pack or two, and would prolly only be 5-10 levels. It is obvious and apparent that no matter what Anet does that there will still be constant whining an complaining from the ones doing it now, it will just be about something else. We'll just have to wait and see what Anet has in store for GW, hopefully they will remedy some issues to make things better for everyone.

Capping the level at 20 is actually a really novel idea. Many RPGs feature a see-saw effect, where the game will become progressively easier as you advance in levels then become hard again once you move on to the next portion of the game. Guild Wars seems like it will eliminate that and provide a constant challenge for veteran players.

The thing about not raising the cap is great. Why, because it does promote skill as the game progessivly gets harder in missions. As long as they keep increasing mob strength and levels it makes the game more challenging, sometimes too challenging for some but others like the strategy that comes into play when dealing with it.
IE Goto underworld with people who have no strategy and watch how quick you die, that should be how the expansions start at that level of play.
Coming from a competitive FPS background playing BF1942 I respect strategy and using tactics to lure/agro groups and work our way through to our objective. That is what makes this game fun. Not being able to just slaughter everything and have no fun. I don't want a wolfenstein or quake run and kill it all. I want to go whoa wait up we have to have a plan.
If they add content like Mega bosses like Glint, that would be available as a guild quest from your guild hall I think that would promote more teamwork within guilds and not just have groups that start up with 1-2 players and recruit anyone they find.
I think they really need to keep the pve story rolling with all the unanswered questions but include more guild specific content, such as guild only quests from your guild hall. More mega bosses aimed at guild fighting. Guild Alliance quests for two groups of 8 to take on a lvl 40 dragon or something like that.
